Why I use InDesign for web design

In response to Sacha Greif’s recent post on still using Photoshop….

I find it surprising that more people don’t use InDesign. I’ve been pushing its use at Lucid Design for the past 5 or 6 years—or more maybe!

It just seems like the logical choice for designing a web layout since, well, it’s really the best layout application around.

With paragraph and character styles, you can setup a document to mimic CSS classes; and object styles can mimic div classes. Not to mention flexible guides and to easily create grids.

Text and layout tools allow for easy creation and manipulation of headings and paragraphs. Tables are easy to create and style.

And master pages (although I guess layers and layer groups could achieve this in Photoshop).

And it’s vector which makes placing images, cropping, resizing, nav bars, sidebars etc super quick and easy.

All round, I just can’t understand how people can design an entire website in Photoshop. It must be painfully cumbersome.
